A Neckrest, Sepik, Papua New Guinea

This neckrest was used by the Sepik tribes of Papua New Guinea. The people of the Sepik, famed for their woodwork, would order the tribe's master carvers to make them a neckrest. Detailed with zoomorphic figures, these neckrests were believed to keep the bad spirits away from the owner's head.
